Navarre Information and Highlights

Navarre is a popular, growing Florida coastal destination. This gulf front, family friendly and ethnically diverse community has much to offer. The area is secluded, yet convenient. The Gulf Islands National Shoreline, the Santa Rosa Sound and inland rivers like the Backwater, Sweetwater-Juniper and the Coldwater make outdoor recreation a dream. History

Navarre has a colorful history (as does most of Florida) and is named after a province in Spain, also called Navarre. Guy Wyman, a colonel in the US Army, was the founder of Navarre. After World War I, Wyman brought his French fiancé, Noel, back to the United States. Since he couldn’t legally marry her in the USA, he adopted Noel, who named this section Navarre after a province near France in Spain that she loved.

Location

Navarre is located in Northwest Florida in Santa Rosa County. Due to its close proximity to Navarre Beach, with its 4 miles of beach front on the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Gulf Islands National Seashore it has a small but growing community of nature enthusiasts and tourists. Navarre is about 25 miles east of Pensacola and about 15 miles west of Fort Walton Beach.

Weather

Navarre receives an average of 320 days of sunshine a year and has a warm, humid climate producing hot summers, and no dry seasons. The "warm season” produces an average temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit, while the "cold season” cools even the bravest beach goers with an average daily temperature of 56 degrees! Be prepared to dress in layers in the late fall, winter, and early spring, and to peel those layers down to a bathing suit when May comes around.
